Green Drink Psychology: The Pros and Cons of a Green Smoothie Habit

Ok, let’s get real. Some Green Smoothie can taste pretty gross. I want to go over the psychology of drinking a green smoothie everyday. For me it’s a no-brainer. There are simply more pros than cons. See below.

Pros:
It is ridiculously healthy.
It helps prevent cancer from happening and even fights it!
It contains all kinds of vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals.
It is about 14 servings of vegetables!!!
It is much faster than eating a very large salad.
It cleans out my colon on its way….out.
It can increase fertility.
It can clear up your skin!
It fills your belly up for hours.

Cons:
It MAY not taste so yummy.

So there you go. It’s a sacrifice of taste for health that I make everyday. When you feel its benefits, it just doesn’t matter what it tastes like. And it’s only ONE meal out of your day. It’s like the Slim Fast diet when you replace a meal with a shake, but with WAAAY healthier ingredients!

Here are some tips to get you started:

1. “I can’t afford it” is not an excuse! Start with a banana and some spinach in a blender if that’s all you can buy. Then build up more ingredients and make sacrifices in other food areas at the store.
2. If you can’t afford organic, buy conventional produce. I know a lot of health gurus will come down on me about this, but I believe conventional veggies and fruit are better than none at all!
3. Make sure you drink your Green Smoothie COOL, not too hot or cold.
4. Chug it! Hold your nose if you need to and gulp. I drink about 6-8 oz at a time.
5. You don’t need to start with 64oz of smoothie. Like I said in #1, start small and build your way up. I will be here to support you along the way!

Please let me know if you give Green Smoothie a try! I would love to publish some of your success stories! Keep visiting AntiCancerMom for more ideas and support. Tomorrow I will talk about some other protocols I used to beat my cancer, but in the next few weeks I will talk about where to buy some of the ingredients in my Green Smoothie AND how to save money on all these vegetables and fruit! I will also lay out a plan on how you can get started drinking a Green Drink everyday!

  1. I see this is an old post. I wanted to ask about all the sprouts. I have read that it’s hard to be sure the sprouts are fresh as alot of times they have mold and bacteria when you get them from store. Where did you get yours? It’s SO hard for me, I HATE raw veggies with a passion. (stage 4 terminal cervical)

  2. Thank you Courtney. Chris sent me an email with you and your husband being interviewed which led me to this site. Very informational and we will be trying your green smoothie.

  3. We love the Boutenko book “Green Smoothie Revolution”. It’s the only way to get our family to eat raw leafy greens. When you mix them with fruit – it’s soooooo delicious! My 1 year old slurps them down and viciously demands MORE 🙂 It’s a wonderful experience to know that he is enjoying something that’s good for him.

    • We have the Boutenkos’ book and love it too! Like many picky toddlers with food, my daughter will drink a veggie smoothie one day and the next will let it dribble out of her mouth, not pleased. I am hopeful that one day, she will beg me for them again!
